What is the history of the Destilaria Levira? Our distillery has a 4 generation story (almost one century) in distillation. This is something that we are proud of, distillation has run in our veins for a long time. We are known for producing high quality spirits. What is the inspiration behind Adamus Gin? Our motto is 'genuine spirit', so every product that we create must be genuine, unique, different. Adamus is a product created with the passion for differentiation with 3 distinct goals: To stand out as the best of us (our company, reflected in the superior quality of the distilled product ); the best of our region - one of the botanicals used is the Baga grape variety, unique in our region called Bairrada in Portugal - and the best of our country, Portugal (one of the biggest cork producers in the world) reflected in the unique cork stopper made in 100% natural cork. Can you tell us more about the distillery and distillation process? Our distillery uses traditional copper pots with direct steam in a pot distillation. All the high quality distilled products are slowly distilled and carefully selected. All of the 18 botanicals of Adamus are distilled individually and subsequently blended. This way we guarantee the maximum of each botanical all year around. After distillation, we make the blend. This is a very careful process made like our first formula/recipe and always tasted by our team. What can people expect and experience if they visit the distillery for a tour/tasting? People will experience and get to know all the processes, know our sustainability solutions and get to know the new developments. All the people will have the opportunity to talk and taste gin with the people who have a hand in the production of it, in a good and informal work environment. What have been the biggest achievements so far for you and Adamus Gin? In our opinion it is a big achievement to see our gin being loved throughout the world. In 2019 we were considered the "Best Portuguese London Dry" and "Best Retail Exclusive" by World Gin Awards and we won a double gold medal from World Spirits Trophy. But, our biggest achievements are some unique testimonials that a lot of people give us. For example "I don't like gin, but I love your gin", or that some people become so amazed by the look of our bottle that they ask us "If I buy your gin, will it really come in that bottle?" The expression and recognition of those who visit us and taste our gin is the best goal we can receive. It's for them that we work hard every day. How would you describe Adamus Gin in 3 words? Floral, unique and amazing. What's your favourite way to drink Adamus Gin? Our gin has a unique and intense soul, so, as a Gin & Tonic we advise to drink it simple, just gin, ice and tonic. This way you get the true soul of the gin. There are some classic cocktails that if you prepare them with our gin you get a classic with a twist, for example a Dry Martini or an Aviation. Which gins would you always have on your gin shelf (other than your own of course!)?
The world is full of great gins. On my shelf there's always a Monkey 47 Gin and a good classic Martin Millers Gin. But there's also some unique Portuguese gins like Amicis and MUI Gin. What's next for Adamus Gin - any exciting plans? Next we will launch our special limited edition, the Signature Edition. The Signature Edition has the purpose of enhancing the "backbone" of the original Adamus gin based on the following structural aromatic components: Floral, Spice, Vinosity (Fruit and Minerality), and Citrus. The Signature Edition will enhance the floral component. In this version to the 18 botanicals of the original recipe we added one more, the Elderflower. The bottle was designed in a special way that everyone will want to have it in their gin shelf. This is super limited edition. Everyone will need to run to get their hands on a bottle!
