World Gin Day - Around the World in 18 Gins

Few days sound better than World Gin Day! So we have put together a collection of wonderful international or internationally influenced gins from our extensive collection of reviews as inspiration for exploring the world of gin. Featuring gins from sunny Spain and Italy to chilly Iceland and Greenland, how many have you tried!?

Belgium: X-Gin
Best know for it's chocolates, Belgium now brings us a sumptuous combination of chocolate and gin. Created as a collaboration with chocolate maker Xolato, X-Gin is sweet, moreish and an ideal 'dessert gin'. Garnish: Lemon or Raspberry

England: Silent Pool Gin
Silent Pool Distillery is based in the Surrey Hills and is named after the pool alongside the distillery which has a ghostly tale to go with it. The distillery uses the water that feeds the Silent Pool and 24 botanicals to create a gin with wonderful depth of flavour. Garnish: Orange Peel

Finland: Helsinki Dry Gin
Helsinki Distilling Company was established in 2014 by three friends and is the first distillery in the Finnish capital since prohibition ended in Finland in 1932. Featuring lingonberries and rose petals, Helsinki Gin has distinctive pine, fruity and floral characteristics. Garnish: Rosemary

France: Sarabane Gin
Sarabande Gin is the creation of husband and wife team Paul and Isla Gordon. In 2009 they moved to France to run a vineyard, and the couple have since started using the grape skins to produce the base spirit for their small batch gin which they launched in 2016. Garnish: Pink Grapefruit Peel

Germany: Monkey 47 Gin
One of the best known German gin exports, Monkey 47 Gin has soared in popularity. With 47 botanicals, many of which are from the Black Forest where the distillery is located, it is a complex, fruity and bold gin with a fascinating story behind it's name! Garnish: Lime or Sage

Greenland: Isfjord Gin
Isfjord Gin was launched in 2007 and remarkably includes the water from icebergs on Greenland's western coast, with the aim of using the purest water on earth. This water gives Isfjord Gin its smooth character, alongside prominent juniper and citrus. Garnish: Orange

Iceland: Martin Miller's Gin
Martin Miller's Gin actually starts and ends its journey in England, but Iceland plays a crucial role. The gin is distilled at Langleys Distillery near Birmingham before being shipped to Iceland where pure glacial water and cucumber distillate are added, before being returned to England for bottling. Garnish: Strawberry or Cucumber

Isle of Wight: Wight Mermaids Gin
Wight Mermaids Gin was launched in 2015 and it is produced at the Isle of WIght's first distillery, at Rosemary Vineyard. With botanicals including elderflower, rock samphire, hops and grains of paradise, the gin beautifully balances sweetness with savoury and spice notes. Garnish: Lemon Peel or Apple

Italy: Malfy Gin
Malfy Gin brings an explosion of lemon flavours, with lemons from Sicily and the Amalfi Coast, and is reminiscent of limoncello. With 5 other botanicals including juniper and cassia bark, the traditional gin notes are there, but this is a gin that's all about the lemons! Garnish: Rosemary or Lemon

Japan: Kokoro Gin
Although it is distilled in London, Kokoro Gin's co-founder James Nicol was inspired by his uncle who lives in Japan and works in woodland conservation. James' uncle introduced him to the flavoursome sansho berries that are popular in Japanese cuisine, and they are now a stand-out botanical in the gin too. Garnish: Pink Grapefruit

Menorca: Xoriguer Mahon Gin
Pronounced 'sho-ri-gair', Xoriguer Mahon Gin uses a grape spirit and a combination of botanicals that has long been kept a family secret. The gin is produced in Mahon on Menorca and is floral, aromatic and herbaceous (and very good value for money). Garnish: Lemon

Netherlands: By the Dutch
Inspired by traditional Dutch genevers and gins, By The Dutch Dry Gin features blood orange, nutmeg and bay leaf, as well as a drop of malt wine which was traditionally used as a base of genever. Each botanical is distilled separately before being blended. Garnish: Pink Grapefruit

Orkney: Kirkjuvagr
Pronounced, 'kirk-u-vaar', Kirkjuvagr means 'church in the bay' and the flavourful and complex gin is the creation of Orcadians Stephen and Aly Kemp. The gin features a range of botanicals grown on Orkney itself by the UHI Agronomy Institute. Garnish: Orange Peel

Republic of Ireland: Listoke 1777 Gin
Launched in 2016, Listoke 1777 Gin is distilled in a 200 year old barn at Listoke House in County Louth. The gin also features water from the Listoke House well. It is a bold and complex gin that is full of flavour, from floral and fruity notes to earthy and herbaceous notes. Garnish: Orange Peel

Scotland: Rock Rose Gin
Rock Rose Gin was launched in 2014 by Dunnet Bay Distillers, founded by husband and wife team Martin and Claire Murray. Inspired by the northern Scottish coast, it features botanicals such as Sea Buckthorn, Rowan Berries and Rhodiola Rosea (also known as Rock Rose). Garnish: Orange Peel

Spain: Wint & Lila Gin
Although a little know gin in the UK, Wint & Lila Gin is a popular choice in Spain. It is packed with orange and orange blossom which delivers a fresh, summery and aromatic gin. Take a sip and you can imagine yourself strolling through Spanish orange groves! Garnish: Orange Peel or Mint

Sweden: Strane Gin
Produced at the Smogen Distillery in Sweden, which is well known for its whiskey, Strane Gin is a full-bodied London Dry Gin. The distillers create three separate spirits, one with juniper, one with citrus and one with a selection of herbs, which are then carefully blended. Garnish: Orange Peel or Lemon Zest

Wales: Forager's Yellow Label Gin
Created by Snowdonia Distillery, Forager's Yellow Label Gin includes only local Snowdonian botanicals, including foraged juniper, gorse, heather and apple. With a focus on sustainability, 200 bottles are made per week in their Hungarian copper pot still. Garnish: Red Apple
