Morwyn Dry Gin - Review & Tasting Notes
Morwyn Gin
Launched in 2019 by Welsh Sisters, founded by sisters Becky and Tania from New Quay in West Wales, Morwyn is distilled at In The Welsh Wind Distillery in Cardigan, Wales. The gin is inspired by the Welsh tale of Morwyn, a powerful Sea Goddess who loved a fisherman name Rhysen from New Quay, and she would guide his boat safely across the bay each day. When Rhysen fell in love and was to marry someone else, the story says that Morwyn flooded the wedding with a tidal wave and saved only Rhysen. |
The Gin Guide Review
Morywn Gin is flavoursome and well-balanced, delivering an enjoyable combination of citrusy grapefruit and bergamot tea notes together with herbaceous sage and bay. This flavour profile is prominent on the nose and palate, layered on a traditional core of botanicals with undertones of cardamom. Moving into the finish the pink peppercorn character arrives alongside developing cardamom, with dry sage, bay and tea notes and a subtle coastal hint of gorse. With the addition of tonic the flavours continue to show balance and some of the deeper citrus, cardamom and tea notes are elevated too. You can highlight the citrus notes further with a garnish of cardamom or boost the herbaceous character with sage. - Paul Jackson, 2020 |

Meet the Makers
"It all started with a Gin Distilling day at our local distillery. We made two bottles of gin based on the plants that we could gather around New Quay in Ceredigion; gorse flowers, sage, angelica and bay. That was the start of our journey with Morwyn Gin – the tale of a vengeful sea goddess from Cardigan Bay." - Becky Jones & Tania Kenny, Founders
